Animal Hospital South and its vet and technicians did a great job of diagnosing and treating my 11-year-old cat. They were kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. The vet did. a great job of engaging with my cat and made efforts to keep costs low without degrading treatment.
Our dog had not been acting right for over a week. We were initially told it was allergies and to give OTC antihistamines. These provided no forward progress and he continued to deteriorate. We brought him in to see Dr. Lil Herron and she immediately saw what we saw and knew something wasn't right with our boy. Due to concern of a possible neuro/spinal injury/source, she advised us to go to the emergency animal hospital, as they would hopefully have a neurologist on site that could evaluate him. We left animal hospital south and immediately brought him to the emergency animal hospital where he remained for the rest of the day. They ran tests (blood work, X-ray of his neck, ultrasounds, etc...) and just told us they couldn't find anything within the testing that would cause his symptoms and if we wanted to proceed with further testing he would need an MRI but that it was a hard test for an animal to go through. We were "discharged" without any paperwork, guidance or any plan of care that we could follow, even if just to treat his symptoms. They just let us go. Dr. Herron checked in on us first thing in the morning the next day and it was obvious she truly cared about our dog. With no direction given from the emergency animal hospital, she knew we couldn't just let our boy suffer. She offered her thoughts on possible causes, came up with a treatment plan to help with his symptoms; pain coverage, fluids, appetite stimulant, and steroids, just to see if he would respond rather than just doing nothing. Our boy indeed responded to her plan. If it wasn't for her and her team, I have no doubt that our boy would not have made it through another week. Instead, he was back on his feet, walking, eating, playing and lively again. Dr. Herron and her team were so kind, patient and worked with what our wishes were. In the end, it's likely that our dog has a brain tumor, but he is still lively, eating and active for the time being. Dr. Herron and her team continue to help us as we help treat symptoms that we can, even when new symptoms arise, to try and give our boy the best quality of life we can, for whatever time he has left with us. If it wasn't for this team, we would not have our dog with us right now, for this I am certain. It is because of Animal Hospital South/Dr. Herron and her team, that we get to have him for even a while longer. We are beyond thankful for all of the time and care they have poured into our Reggie dog, and for each day we get to spend with him. Thank you, all. So much!
